Lloyd Robert Turnbull, age 54, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in Cleburne, TX. He was born July 27, 1964 in El Paso, TX to William M. Turnbull and Linda Earley Turnbull.
He was a 1982 graduate of Lewisville (TX) High School where he was in the marching band as well as the Symphonic and Jazz bands playing the trombone.
In his formative years, he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout continuing to reach the rank of Life Scout as a teenager.
Lloyd and Mary were married May 16, 1998 with their first child, Liam, being born in 2000 and Lucas in 2002. When Liam was old enough, he became a Cub Scout and this rekindled Lloyd’s interest in scouting, serving as a Cubmaster for Pack 1224. Currently he served as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 673. He received the Scout Master of the year award Longhorn Council in 2015 and 2017.
Lloyd’s interest in being a fireman began as a photographer for the Highland Village Volunteer Fire Department and also as a volunteer. Living just across the street from the fire station, when his “pager” sounded, he would run to the station and be the first one ready to go on the call many times. During this period, he obtained his ECA, EMT, EMTP and FF certifications.
He graduated from UNT with a Bachelor of Science Microbiology degree in 1989. During this time, he became a Licensed Paramedic and began working for Apollo Ambulance and then Med-Star in Ft. Worth, TX while still attending college. When firefighter regulations allowed firefighters to wear corrective lenses/glasses he soon attended and graduated from TCJC Fire School. Upon completion of this schooling, he was hired by the Cedar Hill Fire Department as a fireman/paramedic on October 2, 1994 and eventually becoming a Captain at Station 4. He was always interested in learning more about rescue techniques and then teaching others which brought him great joy. This led him to be involved in TX-1 DMAT, ROPE Team (Rescue Operations Personnel & Equipment)-President, and Cowtown Grotto (caving). One of his favorite adventures was climbing Mt. Rainier. Among his other interests were scuba diving, blacksmithing, photography, aviation, music, karaoke and living the farm life with the family he loved so dearly.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Mary Shelton Turnbull, two sons, Liam Reese Turnbull and Lucas Rainier Turnbull of Cleburne, mother, Linda Turnbull of Lewisville, Tx , sister, Lisa Turnbull of Lubbock, TX, mother-in-law, Mary Helen Shelton of Azle, Tx and sister-in-law, Dorlis Creager and husband Roe of Springtown, aunt Lila Hamann, uncle, Calvin Earley cousins, Greg Hamann, Holly Tuten, Hayley Stewart, Kim Corrigan, and Fred Earley as well as numerous extended family and friends including his professional brotherhood.
