Lonnie Jay Gallop

Lonnie passed away March 19, 2025, in Cleburne, Texas. He loved his family and community, plus he was a sports enthusiast.

Visitation will be held at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, April 7, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Kenneth Coleman will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Roger Berg, Danny Dickerson, Allen Rogers, Kevin Humphreys, Chris Gallop, Phil Rice, and Scott Missey.

Born June 6, 1945, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, he dedicated much of his life to serving others through his work as a correctional officer for Corrections Corp of America in Mineral Wells and operating the commissary at the Johnson County Jail.

He served in Vietnam during 1966-1967 with the U.S. Army Company C. 35th Engineering Combat Battalion, building roads and bridges, and often being exposed to Agent Orange. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Disabled American Veterans.

Officiating high school football over 20 years with the Fort Worth Football Officials was one of his greatest joys. That and playing pool, cooking briskets, tooling leatherwork items, and following his favorite team, the Texas Longhorns.

He has been a member of First Baptist Church Godley for over two decades and grew up at North Cleburne Baptist Church where he made lifelong friends. One of the activities he enjoyed in Godley was spending time with the youth group, especially summer camp.

He is survived by his daughter, Brandon Rice and husband Phillip; son, Chris Gallop and wife Sharon; stepdaughter Audra Missey and husband Scott. Grandchildren include Autumn Traweek, Tristin Carter, Breana Carter, and Alina Rice. Great-grandchildren are Zaelen Cordova, Legend Jackson, Loyal Jackson, L. J. Jackson, Annabelle West, Zendaya Collet, and Sir' Lewis Collet; sister, Mollie Mims and husband Larry, their children Buffie Edwards and Jeremy Bradbury; and his spoiled 4-legged dog, Rocky.

He is also survived by his devoted friend Judy Garrett Thiessen. They attended school together from Junior High through graduation in 1963 from Cleburne High School. Plus, their scouting organizations (Boy Scouts and Camp Fire) often enjoyed activities together. After reconnecting over a decade ago, they have shared life’s events together.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Nonnie Gallop, as well as his wife Glenda Bledsoe Gallop.
