Service for Loyd E. Wallis, 90, of Comanche, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow at Bethany Rest Cemetery in Alvarado. Visitation will be 9-10:00 A.M., Saturday, prior to the service.
Mr. Wallis passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 in Stephenville. He was born March 7, 1933 in Alice, Texas to Clyde and Marie (Anderson) Wallis. He graduated from Alvarado High School. Loyd married Velma May Taylor on October 25, 1952 in Lockett, Texas. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2020 after 68 years of marriage. He was a rolling mill worker for Texas Steel and a foreman for International Mill Service before retiring in Comanche. Loyd was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds Baseball team as a left handed pitcher. He also played for the Army, Fort Worth Cats, Vernon Dusters, Chicago Cub, Durham Bulls, Pioneer League, and Arizona Mexico League. He was also a champion bowler. Loyd served his country in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Wallis is survived by his children, Dennis Wallis and wife Cathy of Grandview and Lawanna Wallis of Comanche; grandchildren, Jacob Wallis, Patrick Wallis and Matthew Wallis and great grandchildren, Jaleigh, Logan Byron, Cobi, Saige, Jhett, Tinsley and Kase.
