Lura Brand

Service for Lura Belle Brand, 88, of Cleburne will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend Brad Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roy Brand, Alvin Brand, Jayde Rice, Don Cox, James Lee Cox and Mark Cox. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Brand passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in Fort Worth. She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Scott City, Okla., to Tensley Eli and Mandy Fletcher Cox. She married George Robert "Pete" Brand on Aug. 10, 1940, in Cleburne.
Mrs. Brand was a writer and a librarian for Liberty Chapel Schools. She was one of the founders of the science fair, which is now called the academic fair in the Cleburne ISD. She was very active in the PTA and was awarded a National PTA Life Achievement Award. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Robert M. "Mike" Brand and wife, Charlene, and Jerry S. Brand and wife, Earline, all of Cleburne; six grandchildren, Robyn Brand, Bryant Hamilton, Bridget Brand, Adam Thresher, Jenny Rodriguez and Emily Brown; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tensley Eli Cox Jr. and wife, Imogene, of Cleburne, Jim Cox and wife, Sherry, of Kemp, Texas, and R.B. Cox and wife, Glenda, of Burleson.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Henry and Howard Cox; one sister, Dorothy Smith; one granddaughter, Brooke Cogburn; and her husband, George "Pete" Brand in 2001.
