Luther Johnson

Luther Campbell Johnson, Jr. was welcomed into his heavenly home Monday, October 9, 2006 after a three year battle with cancer. L.C., also known as "Butch" by his family, was born in Cleburne, Texas on July 12, 1937 to parents Velma and Luther Campbell Johnson,Sr. He grew up in the Joshua/Cleburne area and attended both Hopewell and Joshua schools. L.C. met his loving wife and life long friend, Patsy Ruth in 1954. They were married on October 12, 1956 and were blessed to share 50 wonderful years together. Their greatest joy was seeing their three children grow and later the blessing of precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.

L.C. worked for Riza Manufacturing as a millwright foreman during the first 10 years of their marriage. He traveled all over Texas and neighboring states building grain elevators. Because of his desire to be at home more with his wife and children, L.C. left Riza's and took a job with Johns Manville where he worked until his retirement in 1997.

L.C. loved working with his hands. He expressed his creativity through his carpentry and landscaping skills. This expression of himself was seen in every home he lived in. L.C. also enjoyed restoring old cars. His father's 1971 Chevrolet truck was the most meaningful of his restoration projects.

L.C.'s greatest love was his family. Whether it was a casual meal after church or a planned trip to the lake or mountains, he rejoiced in these special times with them.

L.C. had a true zest for living and a passion for life. Christ was a very important part of his life. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1984 and was a member at Lane Prairie Baptist Church. One of his greatest desires would be that all his friends and family would come to know the saving power and grace of Jesus and be reunited with him one day in heaven.

We will be forever grateful for the love and support of our cherished friends and church families during L.C.'s illness and passing. We especially want to express our gratitude to the wonderful and caring medical staffs at M.D. Anderson, Wall's Regional Hospital and Community Hospice. Our sincere thanks and love also to his nurses, Tammy Weems and Loretta Schnell who lovingly cared for L.C. until he was called home.
Preceding him in death and welcoming him into his eternal home are: his beloved parents, Luther C. and Velma Johnson; his precious sister, Denece Petty and his treasured friend and brother-in-law, Charles Peacock.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Patsy; his loving children, David Glen Johnson and wife Tina, Dana Lynn Hale and husband Keith, and Lonnie Carter Johnson and wife LaNett; his sisters, Mary Ellen Peacock, Doris Hayes and husband Thurman, and Donna Haker and husband Troyce; his brother and friend, Lt. Col. Kenneth O. Johnson; his numerous nieces, nephews, and their families; and his many wonderful and loyal friends.
