Marguerite Scott Simmons passed away on Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Emery J. Lilge Hospice House in Burleson, Texas. She was born March 15, 1921 in Cleburne, Texas. She was the younger daughter of Homer Lee Scott and Julia Anice Carroll Scott. She married W. A. "Buddy" Simmons on May 19, 1940 in Glen Rose, Texas. Next month would have been their 65th. wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Simmons was a lifelong Methodist and was a current and active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She loved God, her family and life, and brought joy to many with her smile and sense of humor. Mrs. Simmons recently received her 50 year pin as a member of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #20 and was also a member of the Cleburne Elks Lodge #811. In 1984 she retired as a housewares buyer for Gibson's.
Marguerite Scott Simmons is survived by her husband Buddy Simmons of Cleburne; two sons, Bud Simmons and wife Claudette of Kingwood, Tx., and Michael Simmons of Corsicana, Tx.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Oliver and husband David of Katy, Tx., and Shannon Velazquez and husband Sal of Austin, Tx.; step great granddaughters Amelia and Alicia Velazquez of Austin; sister, Mildred Beal of Ft. Worth; aunt, Ollie Hanna of Cleburne; cousin, Elaine Garvin and husband Jim of Cleburne; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wanda and David Ellis of Arlington, Marie Pollard of Ft. Worth, Sue and Clois Logsdon of Whitney and John D. Hackworth of Cleburne. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents.
