Maria Castro passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 3, 2021, in Cleburne, TX.
Maria was born on October 9, 1936, in Alamo, TX to Octavio and Francisca Gutierrez. In 1958, she met Constancio Castro at a dance in Fresno, CA. After a few dances they both knew they had met “the one” and just a few short days later, they married in the courthouse of Fresno, CA on July 14, 1958. They welcomed their first child in June of 1959, their second in February 1961, their third in September 1963, their fourth in February 1965, and triplets in November of 1966. They lived in California for many years, until eventually settling with their family in Cleburne, TX in 1982.
Maria took great pride in caring for her family and home, even offering her home as a place of refuge to those in need. She had such a loving heart that in 1977, she opened her home to foster children. In 1989 they grew their family by adopting their two granddaughters and raising them as their own. In 2007, she again opened her home, this time adopting a grandson.
Maria enjoyed reading her bible daily and singing church hymns. She was known for her strong faith and giving heart, and as such she always gave freely to her church’s needs. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
Maria is survived by her husband, Constancio Castro; sister, Alicia Lomelí; children, Tito Castro, Fernando Castro, Jesse Castro, Joe Castro and wife Kari, Katherine Abreu, Melissa Castro, and Elizabeth Thornton and husband, Matt and Matthew Castro; 22 grandchildren and one on the way; and numerous great grandchildren.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Octavio and Francisca Gutierrez; children, Guadalupe Barajas, and Arturo Castro; and her three brothers Armando, Leonel, and Pepe Castro.
