Service for Marie Robinson, 98, of Arlington will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 10, 2014 in Park Row Church of Christ in Arlington. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Robinsons grandsons. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home, 512 N. Ridgeway Drive, Cleburne, TX 76033.
Mrs. Robinson passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 in Arlington. Marie Robinson was born Sadie Marie Jones on August 3, 1915 in Houston, TX and when AT&T transferred her father to Dallas, TX, the family bought a home in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas where Marie attended Winnetka Elementary, Greiner Junior High and then graduated from Sunset High School in 1934.
After high school, she attended evening classes at what eventually became Crosier Tech. It was there that she ran into and old acquaintance by the name of Duncan Robinson. They were married one year later on June 25, 1936 at The Little Church Around The Corner in New York City with photo ops at Niagara Falls and Empire State Building.
Two children were born to this union: Henry Duncan Robinson Jr. and Sharon Marie Robinson (Sturgess). Marie was the quintessential homemaker, loved being a homemaker, wife and mother. Her interest, for the most part revolved around the family. She taught her children how to pray to a loving God in the name of Jesus, about His great love and made sure they were taught in Bible Classes from a very young age and read daily Bible stories from a Childrens Bible Story Book. She was the den mother for Cub scouts, the room mother planning parties and other events for her childrens elementary classrooms, an excellent seamstress, an amazing cook, hospitable to family, friends, neighborhood children, business friends of Duncans, involved in helping with ladies church activities including painting rooms for a Christian Retirement Center in Gunter, Texas, adopting a grandmother from there, doing manicures, pedicures and perms for the residents. She loved flowers and was an active member of the Lake Park Garden Club for years. She was always glad to try to raise money for worthy charities like The March of Dimes and others.
She took care of her husband for several years after he was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease which took his life after 56 and a half years of marriage. She also lovingly cared for her son, Duncan, Jr., who passed from this life just after his 60th birthday.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, by two sisters, Loraine Jones Lindsay and Louise Jones Wilson and by one brother, Alton Louis Jones, Jr.
Survivors include: her daughter, Sharon Robinson Sturgess and her husband, Gaylord of Arlington; five grandchildren- Duncan Robinson III of Abilene, Gayla Sturgess and Brent Sturgess, both of Arlington, Vince Sturgess and his wife, Amy of Dallas, Emily Dean of Mansfield; six great-grandchildren- Jared Beene of Arlington, Jackson and Bailey Sturgess of Dallas, Madeline Dean of Mansfield, Nolan Dean and wife Candace of Dallas, Forrest Dean of Richland Hills; one niece, Joyce Pickard of Keller and one nephew, Bobby Baird of Mesquite.
