Service for Martha Massingill, 78, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 12, 2012 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Interment will be at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Massingill passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in Ft. Worth. She was born Dec. 23, 1933 in Alice, TX to Floyd Cedric and Claudia Hammerly Bowen. She married Dan Everidge Massingill on Nov. 24, 1960 in Houston.

Mrs. Massingill worked as a teacher and counselor in many schools in TX. She was the 1950 class valedictorian of Orchard High School. She attended Whorton Jr. College and earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees at Sam Houston State University. Mrs. Massingill also taught piano and enjoyed playing the piano and organ at churches where she worshipped. She was a lifetime member of Texas State Teachers Association and a Texas Retired Teachers Association Member. She was a member of the Mall Walkers Breakfast Club in Cleburne and a devout Christian.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Massingill of Cleburne; son, Travis Massingill and wife Vonda of Red Oak; daughter, Nancy Griggs and husband Dwight of Irving; grandchildren, Kacie Massingill, Kyle Massingill and Hennesy Griggs; several nieces and nephews, William Massingill and family, John Kelly Bowen and family, Rhonda Jones and family, David Roberts and family, Hal Roberts and family, George Sealy Massingill and family, Berna Massingill and Julia Doan; inlaws, Marie Bowen, Billie Massingill, Tommy Bowen and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Bowen.
