Funeral services for Martin L. Griffith, 88, of Cleburne, will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Mr. Griffith passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Cleburne. He was born to the late, William Bryan and Carrie Odessa Martin Griffith on November 19, 1921 in Johnson County. He married Miriam Ripley on April 2, 1943 in Cleburne. He was the original Peace Officer in a long line of family history in law enforcement. Martin was the first dispatcher for Cleburne Police Department and dispatched for 31 years. He and his son were the first "Father - Son Officer Team" in the state of Texas. Martin was well known for his colorful sayings. Martin was of the Baptist faith. His commitment to peace and community will be missed greatly by all those that knew and loved him. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Miriam Griffith in 2006.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Janice and Donald Smith, Sherry and Dave Smith, Martin Jr. and Barbara Griffith, and Beth Griffith; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, William B. Griffith; sister, Janet Kidder; and a host of other relatives and friends.
