Graveside services for Martin Edward Hughes, 91, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in the Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, September 6, 2021.
Martin passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in Burleson. He was born to John Frank and Virgie Beatrice Weeks Hughes on July 16, 1930 in Cleburne. Martin married Mary Sue Crawford on December 13, 1948 in Weatherford. He was of the Christian faith and retired after over 47 years as an Engineering Test Lab Technician with Lockheed Martin. He was known as Popa or Big Pop, to his grandchildren, whom he adored. It has been said many times that he was the nicest person you could ever meet. Martin was an honorable man who believed in working hard and loving your family. His and Mary’s marriage and parenting were an inspiration to so many around them. Martin was known as a master craftsman, having the ability and talent to make anything to include guitars and guns, even. He will be missed greatly and remembered for generations to follow. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Johnny Edward Hughes; granddaughter, Hanna; son-in-law, J.R. Schumacher; and sister, Lucille English.
Survivors include his daughter, Beatrice Schumacher; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Ray and Peggy Hughes; daughter-in-law, MaunaKea Hughes; grandchildren, Krista, Melissa, Kevin, Belinda, Sarah, Johnny and Jimmie; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and one more on the way as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
