The Ludgate family lived in Indian until she was 12 years old. Her parents being missionaries traveled within the US, until her late teens when they settled in Chattanooga TN in which she attended Academy.
At the age of 18 she traveled to Cape Town South Africa, attending Hildiburg College and then back to the states to attend nursing school in Tacoma Park Maryland, at Washington Missionary College now named Washington Adventist University. After graduating she met the love of her life F. Kenneth Brown on a blind date. Two months of writing letters and dating, Kenneth asked her to marry him, in which she said yes! Shortly thereafter they tied the knot on July 3, 1954 in San Antonio, TX. The first child born to this union was Steven Kenneth Brown, followed by Michael Ronald Brown three years later.
