Service for Mary Ellen Smith Burt, 86, of Cleburne will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2013 in Henderson Street Baptist Church. The Reverend Eddie Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, Jan. 3, at the church.
Mary Ellen Smith Burt passed from this life to her eternal home with her Lord on Jan. 1, 2014. She was born on Jan. 13, 1927. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 11 and was baptized at Henderson Street Baptist Church. She studied at Decatur Baptist College and completed her degree at Howard Payne University. She carpooled with a young seminary student as she continued her studies at Southwestern Seminary and thus began the journey of Dan and Mary Burt together. They were wed at Henderson Street Baptist Church on August 26, 1952. They began their ministries at Lone Willow Baptist and then on to Tolar Baptist. They continued together as the Lord called them to foreign mission service and served for 32 years in Brazil. Upon retirement in Cleburne, Texas, they continued to serve the Lord in the community in Cleburne and in Keene.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Olga Smith; two sisters, Grace Foote and Melba Underwood; and three children, Daniel Grayson Burt, Paul Glen Burt and Daniel Mark Burt.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Daniel Hix Burt, Jr.; two brothers, Otho Smith and Sam Smith; one sister, Faye Smith; son, Stephen Burt and wife Becky of Fort Worth; daughter, Martha Burt of Burleson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Burt of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Megan Granaghan and husband Chris and Warren Burt, of Austin and Justin Burt of Fort Worth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Mary may be made to Henderson Street Baptist Church, Bibles for Brazil-IMB, P.O. Box 472, Cleburne, TX 76033.
