Mary Theora Hileman Banks, 93, of Joshua, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Burleson, TX. She was born January 26, 1931 in Los Angeles, California. She married Laurence Richard Banks on February 4, 1949 in Maywood, California. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage.
Mary grew up in Southern California and moved to Central California with Larry and their children in the early 1950's. She spent her retirement years in Tennessee and Texas.
Mary spent many years as a wife and homemaker. She also worked outside the home when her children were school age. Her work outside the home was varied. For a while she worked at a lumber mill operating one of the main saws and spent a brief time as a welder. Her longest career was as a medical clerk in both a doctor's office and a hospital.
Mary was an avid world traveler. Over the years she visited more than 30 countries. Her traveling partners included her husband and some of her children. She was a passionate quilter, making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her attention to detail and curiosity made her a puzzle master.
Mary is survived by her children, Deborah Gungl (Wayne), Karen Tilstra (Dan), Cheryl The (James), Kim Elise Kruithof (Simon), David Banks (Janice); 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother Don Cunningham (Rosie), brother Ron Cunningham (Roxanne), numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, James Hileman, step father Orville Cunningham, mother Theora Utley, and husband Laurence Banks.
