Mary Peacock

Mary Ellen Peacock found eternal rest surrounded by her loving children, dear friends and abundant family on Saturday, May 10th at her home in Cleburne.

She was born on April 21, 1927 to Dick and Babe Johnson. She married Charles Peacock on January 27, 1945 and reared two sons and one daughter.

Mary Ellen was known as "Maw-Maw" to her eleven grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren; however, numerous local kids, who are now adults, also adopted the name. Some grandchildren can recall the school bus driving by the Peacock house in the afternoons and all of the children yelling "hello" to "Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw" from the windows.

Mary Ellen was loved for many things, but she may be most remembered for her passion for antiques. Her grandchildren share memories of trying to get an accurate count of the numerous clocks and antiques that Mary Ellen had in her home. Her weekends were often spent rummaging through garage sales and flea markets trying to find the perfect "bargain." Mary Ellen's daughter, Jana, jokes that some of her son, Donald's first words may have been "flea market" from the many weekends he spent with his grandmother.

The love and support shown by Mary Ellen's family in her final days is a testament to the life she lived. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Billy and Evelyn Peacock of Cleburne, son and daughter-in-law Dale and Linda Peacock of Granbury, daughter and son-in-law Jana and William Vaughn of Covington, brother Kenneth Johnson of Lindale, sister Doris Hayes of Sherman, sister Donna Haker of Gunter, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and life-long friends Inetta Whitehead and Billie Lowe. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by husband Charles Peacock, two grandsons William Ray Vaughn and Brent Peacock, brother L.C. "Butch" Johnson and sister Denece Petty.
