Service for Melvin "Mel" Hunt, 94, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend Charles Payne will officiate. Burial will be at 2:15 P.M., in the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Pallbearers will be David Smith, Nate Lewis, Joe Cabrera, Armando Garcia, Joseph Garcia and Ruben Garcia. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Mel Hunt passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 in Cleburne. He was born Oct. 12, 1919 in Sedalia, MO. to Gus E. and Lula E. Sands Hunt. He married Peggy L. Taggart on Feb. 1, 1947 in Olathe, Kan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp serving in WWII. Mr. Hunt worked for McDonald Douglas for over 30 years where he worked as an aerospace engineer along w/ NASA. He was a member of the Cleburne Masonic Lodge #315 for 58 years and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy L. Hunt of Cleburne; children, Thomas Hunt and wife Danielle of Oklahoma and Teresa Hewgill and husband Ken of Cleburne; son-in-law David Smith; seven grandchildren, Rachelle, James, Jathan, Mary, Emily, David and Matthew; eight great grandchildren, Destiny, Hannah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Jaycee, Allie, Linda Louann and Natalie and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Owen Hunt; sister, Mildred Smith; son, Rick Hunt and great grandson, Austin Smith.
