Service for Melvin Lee McCollum, 92, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 1, 2021 at Nolan River Road Baptist Church. Reverend Larry York and Reverend Adam Mathews will officiate. Burial to follow in Bono Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ed Patrick, Coby Quisenberry, Jim Newcomb, Jack McCartney, Don Britt, James Chapman, Darrell Bradley and Frank Scholz. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Boulden and Norvin Bricker.
Melvin passed away September 25, 2021 in Cleburne. He was born October 11, 1928 in Circle Back, Texas to Emmett John McCollum and Bessie McCall Evarts McCollum. Melvin married Margie Mae Sartor on July 4, 1948 in Bono, Texas. He was a member of Nolan River Road Baptist Church. Melvin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard Payne and a Masters Degree from North Texas State University. He was a teacher for Cleburne ISD with 23 years of service. Melvin also taught for 5 years in Colorado. He taught many young people and also taught drivers education for many years.
Mr. McCollum is survived by his daughter, Melanie Wylie and husband, Garey of Cleburne; son and daughter-in-law, Murray & Margaret McCollum of Cleburne; grandchildren, Missy Brown and husband, Jeremy, Rachelle Barta and husband, Michael, Monty McCollum and wife, Katie, Melissa Rabinowitz and husband Jason, Jason Wylie and wife Rachel; great-grandchildren, Mallory McWhirter, Colt Brown, Elizabeth Barta, Mitchell McCollum, MacKenzie McCollum, Maddison Rabinowitz, Molly Rabinowitz, Jacob Wylie, and Caden Wylie; great-great-grandchildren, Brinlee McWhirter, and Sayde Hudson. Also, nieces, nephews and a very dear niece, Joyce Hatch.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margie McCollum; brother, E.J. McCollum, Jr.; and sister, Loreta Marshall.
