Melvin Aubry (Bud) Melson, at the age of 77, went to meet his Lord and Savior on August 4, 2022 while surrounded by family.

Bud was born February 17, 1945 in Leon, Oklahoma, to Faber Lorene and Earvin Melson. He was the 4th of seven children. When Bud was a child, the family moved to Osceola, Texas, where they worked in the crop fields to earn a living and attend school. He later graduated from Itasca High School. He joined the Texas Army National Guard in 1965. In 1970, Bud signed up for the selective services so that he could be drafted and join the fight in Vietnam. He was drafted in July and by August was in Vietnam. He was a combat medic in the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal with V Device, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, 2 Purple Heart Medals, Combat Medical Badge, Bronze Star Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge, while he was there from 1970 to 1972. After returning home he later began work at the Chaparral Steel Mill in Midlothian, Texas. He worked there until retiring at the age of 50. During retirement, he enjoyed classic cars, staying connected with his Vietnam combat veteran friends, taking care of his neighbors, and his family. He mostly enjoyed watching his grandchildren Aiden and Aubrey grow. His son Mark, daughter-in-law Alyssa, and his two grandchildren were his greatest pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earvin and Faber, brother James, sister Rachel, and sister Raye. He is survived by his son Mark and wife Alyssa, and their children Aiden and Aubrey, as well as his remaining brothers, Val, Larry and Gary, and numerous nieces and nephews.
