Services for Mildred Elmore Harris, 98, of Cleburne will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2006 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Reverend Robert Graham will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony McKinney, Lloyd McKinney, Van Elmore, Dale White, Joe Denman and J.Y. Hobson.
Mrs. Harris passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 in Cleburne. She was born on Oct. 12, 1907 in Blum to Albert Anderson Elmore and Rachel Elizabeth Bennett Elmore. She married John A. Harris in May, 1938 in Blum at the home of her parents. He preceded her in death in Nov. 1963. She was a graduate of the Blum High School and a graduate of Mary Harden-Baylor College in Belton, with a major in music. She taught in the public schools and also gave private lessons for almost 70 years. Mrs. Harris was a member of Field Street Baptist Church and was the Sunday school pianist for many years. She was also an accomplished organist. Her music was her life and she had been a pianist since the age of 11. She taught music in Aquilla, Rio Vista, Glen Rose and Commerce.
Mrs. Harris was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and after moving to Cleburne in 1984 continued to be an active member of the Ruth Chapter of the Eastern Star and was their pianist for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women of Cleburne.
Mrs. Harris is survived by three sisters, Ruth Elmore Fuller of Cleburne, Christine Elmore Holcomb of Cleburne and Freddie Elmore McKinney and husband Lloyd B., Sr. of San Angelo; a number of nieces, nephews, friends and a special friend Mrs. Ruby Woods of Katy. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Louise Elmore, Thelma Cox and Ruby White and one brother, Albert Bennett Elmore.
Visitation will be from 6-8p.m., Tuesday in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home.
