Service for Mildred Holmes Vaughn, 85, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 3, 2014 at Henderson Street Baptist Church. The Reverend Eddie Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.
Mildred Holmes Vaughn passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 in Cleburne. She was born January 9, 1929 in Venus, Texas to Clifford and Lucille Russell Holmes.
Ms. Vaughn worked as a store manager until retirement. She was a loyal, hardworking lady who never met a stranger. She loved to laugh and was always smiling. Her smile could light up a room. She was grateful for all her life experiences and felt her life had been blessed. She loved the Lord and her church. She was a member of Henderson Street Baptist Church since the age of nine. She was also a volunteer at the Johnson County Historical Society, an East Cleburne Community Center board member and a member of the Johnson County Democratic Party. Her independent spirit and love for life will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Cheri Hodek and husband James, Tommy Vaughn and wife Sue, Floyd Vaughn, and Richard Vaughn and wife Pam; 16 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and another on the way; brothers, Joe Holmes and Fred Holmes; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends, including her adoptive family members, Jimmy and Dawn Aiken and Jimmy and Jean Pickett. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Vaughn; brothers, Johnny Holmes, Jimmy Holmes, and Billy Holmes; sisters, Betty Lewis and Helen Holmes; and daughter-in-law, Cecilia Vaughn.
