Graveside service for Newman Ray Stephens, 88, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 16, 2022, in Rosehill Cemetery. Reverend Charles Payne and Chaplain Eddy Carrell will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Randall Stephens, Jr., Brandon Stephens, Bobby Stephens, Mitch Stephens, Michael Stephens, and Austin Stephens.

Newman Ray passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Cleburne. He was born September 30, 1933, in Covington to James Gurley and Mamie Jewel (McMurrey) Stephens. Ray married Mae Jeannette Morrison on August 27, 1980, in Cleburne. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cleburne. Ray served in the United States Airforce in Korea and worked for Santa Fe Railroad with over 20 years of service.

Newman Ray is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mae Stephens of Cleburne; children, Sylvia Santa and husband, Jimmy of Irving, Randall Stephens of Cedar Hill, Bonnie Stephens of Sachse, and John Stephens and wife, Tiffany Kays of Cleburne; grandchildren, Randall, Jr., Brandon, Bobby, Emily, Mitch, Michael, David, Molly, Adam, and Nicole; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert Ray Stephens in 1973, Alan Dale Stephens in 1956, and Dennis Eugene Stephens in 2017; sisters, Ula Joe, Flora Mae, Georgia Lee, and Marlene; brothers, Bob, Basil, Wayne, Robert, and Everett Clinton.
