Services for Oris D. Williams, 82, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. B.B. Stevens will officiate.
Oris D. Williams passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007 in Cleburne. He was born September 8, 1924 in Eulogy Community, Bosque, Tx to John Leland and Alma Maude Seago Williams. He married Evelyn Hutto on August 13, 1949 in Cleburne.
Mr. Williams was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Army. He worked on the Alaskan Pipeline after being discharged from the Army.
He retired as a machinist, in 1984 after 33 years of service, with Santa Fe Railroad. He formerly was a deacon at Central Church of Christ. He and his late wife, Evelyn, were active in the founding of the C.C. Cooke Development Center in Cleburne. They worked together in founding and working with various programs and activities for mentally challenged citizens in Cleburne. He also worked with prison ministry and helping with reform programs for former inmates.
Oris D. Williams is survived by his daughter, Argie Beck and husband, Ken of Rio Vista and Jeanne Bird and husband, John Menzie of Ft. Worth; sons, Glenn Williams and wife Cathy of Buda and Steven Williams of Arlington; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Williams on August 8, 2000; daughters, Janetta Williams on January 13, 2003 and Cara Jan Williams in 1967; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
