Service for Orvil “Bro. Joe” Stephens, 87, of Cleburne will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 in Field Street Baptist Church. The Reverend Jerald Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chad Stephens, Marshall Spiking, John Henry, Michael Simons, Jimmy Moore and Michael Moore.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.
Orvil “Bro. Joe” Stephens passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in Cleburne. He was born Jan. 21, 1929 in Johnson County to James Virgil and Mary Emma Johnson Stephens. He married Billie F. Moore on March 25, 1950 in Cleburne.
Bro. Joe was a retired CW4 in the United States Army, with 46 years of service and a retired Southern Baptist Minister with over 60 years of service. He was a 36 year member of the Lions Club. He also served as Chaplain for many organizations and conducted many weddings and funerals for several decades in Johnson and surrounding counties, as well as El Paso and Phoenix, AZ. Bro. Joe was a member of Field Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Billie Stephens of Cleburne; three children, Bobby Joe Stephens and wife Mary of Godley, Stephanie Henry and husband John of West Fork, AR and Gena Stephens of Cleburne; nine grandchildren, Tami, Rod, Chad, Jason, Courtney, Marshall, Ashley, Aaron and Andrew; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
