Oscar Lee Wilkirson, 86, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in Grandview. A lifelong resident of the Grandview area, he was a businessman and rancher. He was born March 12, 1926 in Dallas to Cad T. and May Files Wilkirson. He was married for over 57 years to Mary Anne Pollan, originally of Seagoville.

Mr. Wilkirson enjoyed life to the fullest and ensured others around him did as well. From childhood, he thrived to be outdoors whether working with cattle, being one of the first to waterski on the new Lake Whitney or just traveling to Texas Longhorn sporting events. He was a lifelong member of The First Presbyterian Church of Itasca.

Prior to graduating from Grandview High School in 1943, he earned the area’s first Eagle Scout award. He enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. After his two years of U.S. Naval service concluded, he returned to Austin and earned a BBA in Business Administration in 1949. Upon graduation, he came back to Grandview to begin his ranching and business career.

During his lifetime, he served the community in numerous ways. These included over 20 years as a member of the Grandview ISD School Board including President for several years, Chief of the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, President and Auction Superintendent of the Johnson County Junior Livestock Association and a Director of the Johnson County Rural Water Supply Board. He was named an Honorary State Farmer by the Texas Future Farmers of America.

In addition he was a long-time director of the First State Bank of Rio Vista. He and Mary Anne were named as Johnson County Outstanding Farm and Ranch Family in 1982 and to the Greater Grandview Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Anne Wilkirson of Grandview; son, John Wilkirson and wife Stacy of Houston; daughter, Anne Wilkirson Aaron and husband Randy of Wichita Falls; five grandsons, Will Wilkirson, Matt Wilkirson, Drew Aaron, Michael Aaron and Jonathan Aaron; one sister, Mary Jeanette Boswell and husband Vol of Tulsa, Okla; one niece, Jeanette Stokes; and two nephews, Lee Wilkirson and Dan Wilkirson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Pat Wilkirson.

His service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16 in the First Presbyterian Church of Itasca. Diane Barnes, Ruling Elder, will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 15 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Carmen Bruner, John Cockerham, Jay Davis, Ken Davis, William K. Hoffman, III and Harold Laird. Honorary pallbearers will be Mac Hill, Joe Ross and Lowell Smith, Jr.
