Service for Paul Hollingsworth, 92, of Carrollton, formerly of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 17, 2011 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend John Glover will officiate. Burial with Masonic Rites and full military honors will be in the Greenacres Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Charles Clifton, Gary Brand, Jerry Brand, Alvin Brand, Jeff Hollingsworth, Kyle Hollingsworth, Jimmy Wray and Brad Evans.
Mr. Hollingsworth passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 in Carrollton. He was born June 6, 1918 in West Monroe, LA to Samuel and Alice Johnston Hollingsworth. He married Bernice Marie Brand on December 19, 1947 in Cleburne.
Mr. Hollingsworth graduated from Okaloosa High School in West Monroe, LA. After graduation he attended Baylor University. His long service career began in 1936 upon enlistment in the U.S. Army. Later he joined the Army Air Corps and attended aircraft mechanics school at Chanute Air Force base. He then became an instructor in aircraft electrical systems. In 1943 he became a warrent officer and transferred to flight duty as a flight engineer in B-17's and also served as an aircraft observer in B-29's. In
1962 he was assigned to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO as the base Sergeant Major. In 1967 he was awarded the Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the U. S. Air Force; something he was most proud of. After his retirement as Chief Master Sergeant with 31 years of service to his country, he was proudly employed by the University of Texas as the assistant to the Dean of Engineering, where he was the supervisor of the engineering foundation. He served 15 years in this position. A chair is currently endowed in his name for his work at the University of Texas. Mr. Hollingsworth was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Cleburne Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He was a member of the Field Street Baptist Church where he was most active. Paul was also active in the Cleburne Christian Business Club and the Front Porch coffee club.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bernice Hollingsworth of Carrollton; three children, Paul A. Hollingsworth and wife Judy of Garland, Paula Fowler and husband Max of Carrollton and Hal Hollingsworth and wife Connie of Lockhart; four grandchildren, Jeff Hollingsworth and wife Kim of Elizabeth City, N.C., Jennifer May and husband Tony of Chandler, AZ., Julie Hollingsworth of Houston, and Brett Fowler of Austin; great grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Taylor, Tatum and Patrick; former wife and close friend, Gene Hill of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Amos Hollingsworth and Frank Talmadge Hollingsworth.
