Peggy Bennett

Peggy Jean Bennett, 73, a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Sunday afternoon April 22nd in Cleburne.

Memorial Service will be Wednesday, April 25 at the First Christian Church in Cleburne at 4:00 p.m.
Peggy Bell was born in Eastland County, Texas on May 30, 1933. Peggy spent her early years in Gorman, Texas and graduated from Gorman High School. After graduation, Peggy met the love of her life, Fred Bennett, whom she married in December 1950, beginning Peggy's long and successful career as wife, mother and homemaker. Sons Gary and Michael joined the young family that had now taken up residence in nearby Ranger, Texas.
While in Ranger, Peggy made her first foray into the business world, opening a popular restaurant in downtown Ranger, near the High School. The restaurant, called The Bulldog Grill, offered Peggy a chance to showcase her unrivaled cooking skills, which were at their best when it came to preparing desserts.
The family relocated from Ranger to Cleburne in 1966, giving Peggy her next career opportunity. Bennett Printing Company opened in a small storefront on West Henderson Street and Peggy became a key part of the young company's success. Working long hours alongside her husband and keeping her sons in tow, Peggy became an early textbook example for how to perfectly balance the needs of a strong family and a demanding career. That the family remains close today is a testament to her example.
With the arrival of her third son, Mark, in 1969 and with the success of the company well under way, Peggy took some time off to concentrate on her family. She was never happier than when the whole family and all their friends were under her roof. She was renowned as a gracious and attentive hostess.
Never one to sit idle, Peggy started her own business, Bennett Quick Print, in 1979, which she successfully ran as long as her health allowed.
Peggy enjoyed travel, especially cruises, and was fortunate to have traveled extensively with Fred during their 56-year marriage. She especially enjoyed her five grandchildren and always looked forward to her time together with them.
She was her family's firm foundation, and like the foundation beneath a great building, she did her work quietly and with great strength. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.
Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Zorah Bell; her older sister, Jolene Bell and her younger brother, George Stanley Bell.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Fred Bennett of Cleburne; her sons Gary Bennett and wife Melissa of Cleburne; Michael Bennett and wife Melissa Mitchell of Fort Worth; and Mark Bennett of Dallas, as well as her five grandchildren: Bradley Bennett, Scott Bennett, Sophie Bennett, Shelby Bennett and Samuel Bennett.

Memorials should be sent to the First Christian Church of Cleburne, 200 South Nolan River Road, Cleburne, Texas 76031.
