Peggy Luther Hassell, known to most as “Nanny Peg”, passed from this Earthly world and her home in Cleburne into the arms of her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. She was born to Benjamin Franklin and Elizabeth Delia Lowrance Luther on March 28, 1933 in Godley, Texas. On September 28, 1955 she married the love of her life, Billie Lee Hassell, in Fort Worth. Nanny Peg and Billie were founding members of the Family First Assembly of God Church in Cleburne, where their faithful service impacted countless lives. She operated a daycare facility in her home for many years, providing love and care to children throughout the area. Above all the many loves of her life, serving the Lord as well as studying and sharing His word were at the heart of who she was. Another of her great loves was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She inspired generations to follow her lead in her faith and dedication to family both. Nanny Peg enjoyed spending time in the garden and being outdoors in general. She was a character! Sitting down to play cards or dominoes with her was always an adventure. Those she won against often claimed she cheated – if you can imagine that. Those who knew her best, know that she believed in “sputtering” as needed. Peggy Ruth Luther Hassell aka “Nanny Peg” left a mark on those she leaves behind that can never be erased. Her strong will, stronger faith and her love of family will live on through the countless generations to follow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Elizabeth Delia Luther; husband, Billie Lee Hassell; brother, Joseph Luther; and grandson, Donald Lathers, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Larry Harris & his wife, Charlotte; sister, Geraldine Little; grandchildren, Peggy Harris Lathers & her companion, Raymond Dennis, James Chris Harris & his wife, Janey, Eric Harris & his wife, Whitney, and Bobbie Jannelle Jarmon; 18 great grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren; numerous generations of nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
