Phala Clay

Service for Phala Joyce Jones Clay, 69, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the 1st Mount Zion Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Monday at the funeral home.

Phala Joyce Jones Clay gained her wings on Tuesday August 11, 2020, She was born to Eldridge, Sr. & Marva Jones on July 16, 1951. Phala met and married Michael Clay in 1977 they were married for 43 wonderful years.

Phala was a faithful servant, a wonderful Psalmist, an amazing cook and a hardworking woman. She attended Booker T. Washington High school most of her school years but graduated from Cleburne High School in 1969 due to integration. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and a great friend to so many.  She was a faithful member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church for over 35 years; where she served as President of the Choir Department, served in the Missionary Society and in the ministry of hospitality in the church and in her community.

Phala leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 43 years Michael Clay, her children Causha Jones, and Tyrone Nunn; mother-in-law Faye Clay; a special son Jeff Gilbert and his extended family.; grandchildren Tyrin Jones, Kavyon Nunn & Paislee Nunn and Jaylnn & Janae Jarmon; brother Eldridge Jones Jr; sister Debra Walker; four nieces Da’Mona (Tyrone) Jones, Marlena (Marcus) Ramsey, Jennifer (John) Bankhead and Cynthia Clay;-Hawkins nephew Marcus (Na-Na) Jones; sisters-in-law Sharell Clay and Melba Clay; great-nephews; great-nieces and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge, Sr. & Marva Jones; father-in-law James Clay and sister-in-law Patricia Clay-Williams.
