Dr. Philip James Bailey, 66, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. First United Methodist Church, 1300 W. Westhill Dr. Cleburne.
Visitation: Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home, Tuesday, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Dr. Bailey was a teaching professor for the University of North Texas and practiced at John Peter Smith Hospital. He began his medical career in the Air Force, then graduated from Huntington College, Alabama, then through medical school at The University of Alabama.

Dr. Bailey served his country for over twenty years in The United States Navy and retired with the rank of Commander. He began his private practice at the Kimbro Clinic in Cleburne in 1983. He practiced at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, Wall Regional Hospital, Huguley Hospital, and finally at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He was a Board Certified OBGYN practitioner and was a Fellow of American College of Gynecology.

Dr. Bailey was born July 4th, 1941 in Medford, Massachusetts to Andrew and Phyllis Bailey. He is survived by the love of his life, Sandra Bailey, his sisters Andrea Gravelle and Margaret Bryant, children Andrew Bailey and April Hunter of Pana, Illinois, James Bailey of Aurora, Colorado, Elena Pohl of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Luisa Detwiler of Boyerton, Pennsylvania. He leaves behind five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Dr. Bailey was an avid golfer, fisherman and onetime ham radio operator. Phil did not want to retire. He enjoyed his profession and was proud of all the children he helped deliver and his patients who were so important to him.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Memory of Philip Bailey, M.D. FACOG. for medical education for the education and training of Residents at John Peter Smith Hospital and The University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
