Mrs. Ramona McDonald Archer died Saturday, January 21, in Grandview, Texas, where she was a resident at Grandview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born July 31, 1924, in Munger, Limestone County, Texas, Ramona was the daughter and oldest child of Cecil Minton (Milton) McDonald and Margaret Cathlene Thomas McDonald. She married Joseph (Joe) B. Archer on January 17, 1945. Through the years, they lived and worked and raised their three children in a number of places: Santa Ana, California; Prairie Hill, TX; Waco, TX; Henderson, TX; and Marshall, TX.
Known for her servant’s heart, Mrs. Archer’s life reflected a strong Christian faith and the importance of family and friends. She was not afraid of hard work and had a variety of jobs through the years, eventually retiring from a business she and her husband owned and operated together—Archer Insurance Agency and Combined Reality in Marshall, TX.
She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, making jellies and preserves, league bowling, art and ceramics. Famous for her homemade biscuits and pies, her home was always a favorite gathering place for holiday gatherings. And there was always room for an extra plate at the table.
Preceding Ramona in death were her husband Joe B. Archer, son Stanley M. Archer, parents Cecil and Maggie McDonald, brothers V.T. and Jimmy McDonald, and sister Bobbie Green.
