Reta Kay Vineyard Hungerford was called to her heavenly home on October 15, 2022, after her courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Gorman, Texas to Jack and Hazel Vineyard of the Soda Springs Community. She lived her life with love for her family and her community. Kay was one who always had a hug for everyone and always went out of her way to help others. She had the best hugs.
Kay loved to sew. She made Quillows for all her nephews and nieces First Christmas. She also made most of the dress clothes her mother wore, mainly made of double-knit fabric. She loved to bake and took a class in cake decorating. She made many birthday cakes, wedding cakes and some special-order cakes. She was always trying out new recipes of all kinds, some were good and others not so good. Her family was always the guinea pigs. Kay was very active in all aspects of family life, especially Family Reunions. She was always ready to do crafts with all ages; was always finding new crafts to do. Kay enjoyed following her granddaughters’ activities, such as dancing, band, and softball, and even going long distances to enjoy watching them. She had gone to watch National Dance Competitions, State Board Competitions and Conference Championship games for College Softball. She was actively involved with her church family in serving her God, by helping others. Kay was a member of the Grandmothers Club, which was a part of The Red Hats Club, through this club they had a yearly garage sale, which raised money to help disadvantaged children in Johnson County. They supported about five different non-profits; their purpose was to help kids.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jack and Hazel; one sister, Margie Beth Vineyard Bragg; one brother, James Aubery Vineyard; one nephew, James Eric Vineyard and numerous aunts, uncles, and numerous other family members.
