Graveside services for Lt. Col. Retired Ira B. McNeely, Jr., 87, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 in the Stacy Cemetery, McCulloch County, TX. Mr. B.B. Stevens will officiate.
Ira B. McNeely, Jr. passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in Cleburne. He was born March 4, 1921 in McCullough County, TX to Ira Sr. and Theo Burton McNeely. He married Dorothy (Nancy) Culps on January 5, 1968 in Ft. Worth.
Mr. McNeely was USAF Lt. Col retired with 24 years of service. During his service in WWII, he was a bombardier, navigator and pilot and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1979, he started breeding and training thoroughbred horses until 2002. He was an avid golfer, lover of blue grass music and played the mandolin.
Ira McNeely, Jr. is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Nancy) McNeely of Cleburne; sons, Larry McNeely and wife, Margaret of Ft. Worth and Robert McNeely of New Brunfels; daughters, Debbie Castles and husband, Mike of Burleson and Dianna Ewen and husband,Joe of Arlington; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Don McNeely of Houston and Ted McNeely of Keller and sister, Jeannette Townsend of San Angelo.
