Services for Robert Lee "R.L." Clay, Sr., 81, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Rev. A.L. Boatner will officiate. Committal service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, in the DFW National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tremaine Clay, Brandon Clay, Justin Clay, Bruce Clay, Kevin Penigar, Jeremy Morgan and Richard Clay. Honorary pallbearers will be the Stewards of St. Paul C.M.E. Church.
Robert Lee "R.L." Clay, Sr. was born in Cleburne, TX on January 6, 1925 to Ira and Mae Webster Clay, Sr. He entered rest on Friday, January 5, 2007 in Ft. Worth at the age of 81. Blessed with wisdom, faith in God's goodness, and a loving family, the closing chapters of his life were graced with spiritual insight.
He was united with St. Paul C.M.E. Church, where he was a Steward, until failing health prevented him from attending. R.L served in the US Army during WW II. He worked as a chef at several restaurants, mainly Chaf-Inn Restaurant.
R.L. Clay is cherished forever in memory by his daughters, Sandra E. Morgan and husband T.C. of Ft. Worth, Hope E. Ratliff and husband James of Temple and Monica Aguilar of Cleburne; sons, Robert L. Clay, Jr. and wife Wanda of Cleburne and John M. Clay of Cleburne; grandchildren, Kevin W. Penigar and wife Pamela, Treva Morgan, Jeremy Morgan and wife Ellen, Justin Clay and wife Liz, Jaime Ratliff, Brandon Clay, Tremaine Clay and Tayvian Davis; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, James Clay and wife Faye of Cleburne and Wilford Clay and wife Mary Ann of Houston; 2 sisters, Ruby Johnson of Fresno, CA and Ann Jahi and husband Jabari of Sacrmento, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
