Memorial services for Robert D. “Sonny” Ramsey, 73, longtime resident of Alvarado, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in the Crosier Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Rick Barnes will officiate.
Sonny passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 in Fort Worth. He was born to Frank Edward and Hazel Lela Smith Ramsey on April 30, 1939 in Dallas. Sonny was of the Pentecostal faith. He was the ultimate truck driver, owning and operating RDR Trucking for over 45 years. He married Linda Goodman on September 20, 1997 in Alvarado. Sonny was a family man in every sense of the phrase, having supported his family from the age of 12 on. He was a kind and warm hearted man who had the ability to make you feel special from the first moment you met him. He loved life and laughter. He knew only one speed in anything he did – fast. Without doubt this was influenced from his racing history where he was not only an avid fan, but a driver as well. He raced in both drag and sprint cars, having won two NHRA drag races even. He was a loyal Ford owner, so much so that his children and grandchildren feared telling him if they bought anything else. His twinkling big blue eyes and independent spirit will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frankie Ramsey.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Linda D. Ramsey; children and their spouses, Dan and Mari Ramsey, Sandy and Randy Dumire, Bryan and Crystal Ramsey, Jana Kundert, Kari and Troy Thorn, Rick and Nicole Barnes, and Kim and Curtis Martin; 23 grandchildren and one on the way; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Freddy Ramsey and wife, Billie; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
