On Thursday, March 8, 2018, Robert Rodriguez, husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away after losing his battle with cancer at the age of 71years. Robert will be forever remembered by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
A native of New Braunfels, TX, Robert graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1965, and then served in the United States Air Force. He later went on to graduate with his Bachelor’s Degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
Robert enjoyed his career in the Air Force as a Computer Programmer and Systems Analyst. After serving in the Air Force, Robert’s civil career consisted of working for The Soil Conservation Service, becoming a Professor at San Antonio College and prior to moving to Godley, TX, he entered the insurance business. Robert eventually worked for the United States Postal Service, prior to retiring in 1992. Upon retiring Robert spend much of his time with his grandchildren, attending sporting events while visiting his children, and enjoyed working on his family geneology.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Elizabeth Rodriguez; children, Dolores Solis and husband Javier; Elizabeth Rodriguez and Kris Rodgers, Robert Rodriguez Jr. and wife Norma, Miguel Rodriguez and wife Ashley, Brian Powell, Joseph Rodriguez and wife Mindy, and Shawn Rodriguez; 32 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Librado Rodriguez and wife Frances, Jesse Rodriguez and wife Lupe, Carlos Rodriguez and wife Carrie, Ramon Rodriguez and wife Olga, Gloria Lagunas and husband Jose, Virginia Rosales and husband Armando, Rudy Rodriguez and wife Tommie, George Rodriguez and wife Patsy, Joey Rodriguez and Jamie Gonzalez; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melinda Rodriguez Powell; son, Juan Miguel Rodriguez; and a sister, Frances Gonzalez.
A Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 11, at 5:00 p.m., at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home, 512 North Ridgeway, Cleburne, TX 76033.
A final viewing will be held from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., on Monday, March 12th, followed by a Church Service, at 11:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 303 South Nolan River Rd, Cleburne, TX 76031.
There will be a brief Graveside service at the Godley Cemetery, in Godley, TX, where Robert will be laid to rest.
