Graveside services for Robert E. Saunders, Jr., 85, of Cleburne, will be held on Monday, January 4, at 2:00 pm in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Mark Ely will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, January 3.


Robert E. Saunders, Jr. passed away in Fort Worth on Thursday, December 31, 2009. He was born to the late, R.E. Sr. and Flora May Sharp Saunders on April 23, 1924 in Rio Vista. He married Doris R. McGee on October 27, 1945 in Cleburne. Robert worked for General Dynamics, now Lockheed Martin for 38 years before retiring as a Master Fiberglass Technician. He was a faithful member of College Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, and camping. PawPaw, as the grandchildren called him was a hard worker and dedicated family man. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.



Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Doris Saunders; children and their spouses, Robert D. and Virginia Saunders, Richard and Mary Saunders, and Karen R. and David Ballew; four grandchildren, Keith Saunders, Christopher Saunders, Wendy Piety, and Jeremy Ballew; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Gladys McKnight and Helen Crawford; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
