Memorial services for Royce Dan Ledbetter, 54, of Joshua, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Granbury Street Church of Christ, Cleburne. Mr. B.B. Stevens will officiate.
Mr. Ledbetter passed away Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Huguley Hospice in Fort Worth after a 10 years battle with carcinoid tumors. He was born January 31, 1952 in Cleburne to Drew and Ruth Willis Ledbetter.
Mr. Ledbetter graduated in the top five of his class from Joshua High School in 1970. He attended Fort Worth Christian College. While there, he recorded an album with the Teens of Texas.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1992 in Guam. He attended the University of Guam receiving two Masters degrees in teaching. He taught in Guam school system for ten years. He taught first grade and special education. He developed a new method of teaching (singing the lessons), which earned him the Teacher of the Year Award in Guam in 2000. His system is being used in some schools in the United States. His songs were published and copyrighted. He then taught education at the University of Guam for two years.
He was a preacher and song leader at the Guam Church of Christ where he was a member.
Royce Dan Ledbetter is survived by three children, Julie, Geoffrey and Jill Ledbetter, grandson, Johnathon Ledbetter; mother, Ruth Ledbetter; brothers, Donald Ledbetter and Kenneth Ledbetter; sister, Joyce Stephens; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Drew Ledbetter and sister, Ellen Landau.
He was formerly married to Geraldine Petri in California.
