Service for Royce Elwood Thompson Sr., 78, of Cleburne will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 7, 2013 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend Mark Ely will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Royce Elwood Thompson Sr. passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 in Ft. Worth. He was born July 1, 1934 in Cleburne to Ewell Ballard and Mildred Pearl Sawyer Thompson. He married Mary Farrington on March 1, 1952 in Cleburne.
Mr. Thompson worked as a tooling engineer for General Dynamics, retiring with 25 years of service. He taught at Hill College for 10 years and was a graduate of East Texas State. He loved woodcarving and was a member of TWG Woodcarving Guild, Nolan River Chippers Carving Club and American Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Mr. Thompson was a member of College Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Thompson of Cleburne; sons, Royce Woody Thompson, Jr. and wife Linda of Rio Vista and Charles K. Thompson and fiancee Laura Prestwood of Austin; two grandchildren, Mary Loudermilk and husband Michael of Arizona and Jenifer Houlroyd and husband Mike of Austin; two great grandchildren, Arianna and Zachary Loudermilk; sister, Nadine Brown and Jim Morelan of Arlington; and nephews, Jerry Watts and wife Linda of Mineral Wells and Allan Stanley Brown, Jr. of Arlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, LaVera Smith and Wanda Wilburn.
