Military graveside service for Captain Sanford F. Mayfield, Ret., 78, of Cleburne, Tex. will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 in the Dreamland Cemetery in Turkey, Tex., The Reverend Charles Payne will officiate.
Capt. Mayfield passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 in Cleburne, Tex. He was born June 2, 1933 in Greensboro, GA. to Sanford David and Gwendolyn Parrott Mayfield. He married Evelyn Grace Coker on May 31, 1974 in Amarillo, Tex. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2002.
Capt. Mayfield served his country proudly for 27 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. He saw service in Korea, participating in the assault at Inchon and service in Vietnam earning the Bronze Star, the Navy Commendation with Valor and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Capt. Mayfield is survived by his daughter, Shirley Mayfield of Oak Island, NC; son, James Mayfield of Arlington, Tex.; grandchildren, Courtnie Mayfield of Lewisville, Tex. and Ross Mayfield of Arlington, Tex. and daughter-in-law, Susan Mayfield of Russellville, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Tom Mayfield in 2009 and a brother Capt. Herman P. Mayfield in 1991.
