Sue Ezell Mahaffey, 84, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, daughter, cousin and friend, passed away in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, June 4, 2005.

Sue was born October 3, 1920, in Cleburne, Texas, and was the only child of Edgar Brown Ezell and Pauline Sue Glasgow Ezell. After attending Cleburne High School, she graduated from the University of Texas where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. On November 26, 1942, she married Howard Albert (Doc) Mahaffey of Hillsboro, Texas. During their 55 years of marriage, they lived in Dallas, Houston, Beaumont, New Orleans and Cleburne.

Throughout her life, Sue was involved with many civic and community organizations, including First United Methodist Church of Cleburne, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Meals on Wheels.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Martha (Marty) Sue Mahaffey Butler and her husband, Michael Limerick Butler, her grandson, Stephen Wood Butler, and his wife, Mollie O'Hara Butler, her great-grandson, Michael Daniel Butler, all of Austin, her cousins, Leslie Ligon McClure, Christine Nisselius, Gene Rutherford, Clyde Whiteside, Charles Ezell and their families, her aunt, Ruth Ezell and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Michael Edgar Mahaffey.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, Texas.

On Friday, June 10, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1300 Westhill Drive, Cleburne, Texas, followed by a graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Cleburne, Meals on Wheels of Johnson County or your favorite charity.
