An informal celebration of the Life of S.W. (Dub) Osborne, 87, of Grandview will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2005 in the Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Joe Stephens will officiate. Burial will be in the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
Mr. Osborne passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 in Ft. Worth. He was born September 27, 1917 in Corsicana, TX. to Albert Lee and Georgia Arlena Wells Osborne. He started school in Hillsboro and lived in Johnson County since the 1920's. He enlisted in the 36th Division Texas National Guard in Johnson County in 1939 and served in the 132nd Field Artillery as a truck driver until the end of WWII. He remained a member of the 36th Division Association attending many annual reunions. Mr. Osborne was a member of the Arrowhead Chapter of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association and enjoyed remembering and sharing stories of his WWII adventures in North Africa, Gremany, Austria and the invasions of Southern France and Italy. He was an avid reader and a lifelong stockman, raising cattle, trading horses and running fox with his beloved hounds. He retired from the Santa Fe R.R. in the 1960's and served as a Johnson County Deputy under Sheriff Cliff Benson from 1969-1972. He married Sandra Sue Harris on October 13, 1972 in Hamilton. They moved to Grandview in 1975 and raised, trained and showed a bloodline of spotted donkeys and mules that is still known throughout the U.S. and in 3 foreign countries. Mr. Osborne served as Regional Rep. and Registry Inspector for the American Donkey and Mule Society and was 2-time President of the Southwestern Donkey and Mule Society (awarded a lifetime membership in 2000) and was a member of Terry's Texas Rangers SCV Camp. He was a former member and officer in the Midway Saddle Club, Burleson Mounties and Alvarado Range Riders riding clubs.
Survivors include his wife Sandra Osborne of Grandview; sons, Charles Osborne and wife Dorris of Cleburne, Jerry Osborne of Carlsbad, N.M.; daughter, JoAnne Frizzell and husband Jimmy of Cleburne; sister, Roberta Cashion of Cleburne; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jesse, Clyde and Jack; sisters Loucille Fouston, Bernice Jones, Vesta Irwin, Mary Holloway and Marie Prater.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cleburne Funeral Home.
