Theresa Capps, age 84, passed away on January 12, 2015 in Zephyrhills, Florida where she had resided since June 2007. Theresa was a cradle catholic and remained a practicing catholic her whole life. Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Crosier Pearson Cleburne Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 19th at the funeral home with visitation to follow.
Theresa was born on a farm south of Fosston, Minnesota in the Sletten Township, Polk County on July 28, 1930. She was the third of seven children in the family of Arthur and Mable LaVoi. She attended school in Fosston, Minnesota and graduated from Fosston High School in 1948. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Marshfield, Wisconsin and graduated in 1951. She worked at Milwaukee County Hospital 1952 and General Rose Hospital in Denver, Colorado in 1953.
Theresa married Robert Jackson Capps Jr. at the Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado on December 19, 1953. Robert and Theresa moved to Ft. Worth, Texas in 1954 and began a family. Robert “Bob” worked at American Airlines as an airline mechanic while Theresa “Terry” was a wife and homemaker. They moved to Euless, Texas and raised seven children.
Theresa was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Euless prior to moving to Covington, Texas. She was also an active member of the Hill County Women’s Education Extension Club where she served as Vice President and later as President of the Covington Chapter.
Theresa was preceded in death by: husband, Robert Capps Jr. (1997); son, Steven Ray Capps (1982); sisters, Audrey Imler Nau (1996); and Patricia Sandquist Thomas (1993).
Survivors include her children: Cindy Hazelwood and husband Mark of Leander, TX; Virginia Wysocki of Zephyrhills, FL; Carolyn Buckner and husband Richard of Palm Bay, FL; sons Robert Capps and Kevin Capps of Euless, TX; daughter-in-law Ronda Ellis and husband Steve of Keller, TX; Lori Champion and husband Steve of Owensboro, KY; seven grandchildren: Michael Capps and wife Lori; Andrew and Kimberly Wysocki; Karrie Hazelwood; Katie Norris and husband Thomas; Libby and Bob Champion; four siblings: Delores Welle, June Bingham, Warren LaVoi and Andy LaVoi.
Theresa was a very kind, patient and wise woman. She was always up to date on politics, religion and current events. She was a great listener. Anyone who shared a cup of coffee and conversation with her knows what a treasure she was! Those left behind are blessed to have had her in their lives.
Theresa will be laid to rest in the Covington Cemetery on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Blessed be the loving memories of Theresa Cecelia LaVoi Capps, beloved wife, mother and friend.
