Services for Thomas Dale Whitworth, 71, of Joshua, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel with Rev. Jerry Clements officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Thomas Dale Whitworth, beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Our dad was born on January 29, 1940 in Port Arthur, Texas to W.T. and Mildred Whitworth. He moved from Port Arthur to Brownwood and finally settled in Cleburne. Tom graduated from Cleburne High School in 1958. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany and Turkey. Upon his discharge, he graduated from TCU with a degree in business. After working for Shell Oil in Morgan City and New Orleans and later Dempster Brothers in Cleburne, Dad entered Baylor University where he earned his law degree in 1977. He practiced law until 2004 first with Alcon Laboratories as an international lawyer and later in practice in Fort Worth, Crowley, and Cleburne. He was the proud father of 2 sons, Stuart and Eric, and daughter, Kristin. He also loved his four granddaughters, Katelin, Megan, Loryn, and Mackenzie. Our dad was an avid chess player and reader. He enjoyed traveling the world. He enjoyed raising various livestock and gardening.
Survivors include his children, Stuart Whitworth and Alice Dulong, Kristin McBride and her husband, Billy, and Eric Whitworth and his wife, Mandy; four granddaughters, Katelin, Megan, and Loryn McBride, and Mackenzie Whitworth; former wife, Gloria Whitworth; sister, Gloria Anderson and brother in law, Charles Anderson; step brothers, Charles Head and his wife, Ruby Lee, Lawrence Head and his wife, Juanita, and Tommy Head and his wife, Carolyn; lifelong friend, Paul Ashley and his wife, Babs of Emerson, NJ; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
