Tybitha Wood
Tybitha Lee Wood (Toby) at the age of 70, through her faith in Christ, passed from this world and entered heaven's gates mid-day January 2, 2010. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Thomas E. Wood (Tommy) and only child, Michael L. Wood (Mike) both of Pasadena, TX. Her life was filled with joy, ministry to others, love for her family; friendship to everyone she came in contact with and her crowns will be many.
She was born in Braggadocio, MO on Dec. 21, 1939, daughter of Stella and Abner Smedley. Toby was adopted by loving parents Taylor and Mildred Gore in 1947 of Pasadena, TX where she would spend most of her life.
Graduating from Pasadena High School in 1958 and then attending St. Louis Institute of Music where she continued her love of piano. She married Thomas E. Wood on March 19, 1960. For many years to follow, Toby taught piano to many young people in the community and played piano at many churches where Tommy was Pastor. Her career path took her to Phillips Petroleum Co. of Pasadena where she was an account representative for 18 years. Tommy and Toby's church ministry took them many places around Texas where they made many friends at each stop. Toby was a wonderful mother to Mike, always being there as a mom and a friend. Toby was a loving and active grandmother to Rachel N. Wood. Being Rachel's "memaw" was one of her favorite things to do. Toby leaves behind her loving sisters, Alta M. James of Austin, TX and Joyce F. Savage of Orange, TX; a brother, Robert G. Bishop of McGregor, TX and half-sister Georgia M. Snyder of Toledo, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her birth and adopted parents along with her sister, Glenda Roberts of Houston, TX and brother, Charles A. Bishop of McGregor, TX.
Toby's life was to be admired and used as an example for those to follow. She will be greatly missed by many in this world and joyously accepted by many in heaven. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 17, 2010 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel with Dr. H. Leroy Fenton officiating. Burial will be in the Caddo Cemetery.
