Velma May Wallis passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Comanche, Texas. She was born December 16, 1933 to Orville Starling and Edna Mae (Green) Taylor. She married Loyd Elmo Wallis on October 25, 1952 in Lockett, Texas. After living in several locations due to Loyd being in the military, the Wallis family settled down in Joshua, Texas, where they raised their son, Dennis and daughter, Lawanna. For years, Velma worked as an inusurance adjuster and received numerous awards for her work, but her passion was genealogy. Velma was a genealogist at heart and traveled the world researching her family heritage. She even tracked down and stayed with distance relatives on one of her trips to Scotland. Her extensive research on her own family dates back to the 1600's. She also made a career out of her love for genealogy by doing the research and creating family trees for over 30 families. For two of those families, she actually wrote and published books on their family history. Up until the last 6 months of her life, Velma continued to work for others and share her passion for genealogy. Throughout the years, Velma was also a member of the DAR-Daughters of the American Revolution and the Eastern Star, as well as several other orginizations for women.
Velma is survived by her husband, Loyd Wallis; children, Dennis Wallis and Cathy of Grandview, Lawanna Wallis of Comanche; grandchildren, Jacob Wallis of Grandview, Patrick Wallis and Chasley of Cleburne, Matthew Wallis of Grandview; great grandchildren, Cobi, Logan, Jaleigh, Jacob; nephews Doug, Nick, Larry, Shawn; nieces Nedra and Prissy.
