Funeral services for Verdye Marie Lackey, 77, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in the First United Methodist Church, Cleburne. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 4, 2022 ,in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
Verdye Marie Lackey passed away in Fort Worth on Friday, July 29, 2022. She was born on April 26, 1945, in Oxford, England. Verdye married the love of her life, Charles A. Lackey on January 26, 1967, in Daingerfield, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Cleburne, where she was active in various roles of service, including the Cornerstone Sunday School Class, Vacation Bible School, and Food Outreach programs and ministries. Verdye retired with over 20 years as a teacher with Keene ISD and continued to touch the lives of young people through her volunteer work with Santa Fe Elementary School in Cleburne. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, where she most recently served as the Johnson-Somervell County Treasurer. Verdye was an artist, especially known for her watercolor and oil paintings, and was a member of the Johnson County Art Guild and Ann Winchester’s Watercolor Class. Verdye was a remarkable lady that was both bright and beautiful, but also jubilant and quirky too. She was known as the queen of one-liners and being a jokester. Her smile was her trademark and she took great joy in making others laugh. Above all else, Verdye was family oriented, to say the least and was the ultimate “Grammy”. Her dedication and countless lessons, sacrifices and outpouring of love will forever be a part of her family members. Verdye will be missed greatly and remembered with much love for years to come.
Verdye is survived by her husband, Charles A. Lackey; children and their spouses, Laura Sutton and Kenny, Lance Lackey and Talisha, Lisa Koch and Trey, Leanne Parrish and Chad, Lane Lackey and Milly; grandchildren, Kelsey Frampton and Christopher, Kari Sutton, Kade Sutton, Kristen Forbes and Christopher, Dylan Lackey, Alyssa Lackey, Lux Koch, Exum Koch, Case Parrish, Cole Parrish, Joanna Lackey, and Mila Lackey; great-grandchildren, Lucy Forbes, Leo Forbes; siblings and their spouses, Brian Larson and Bev, Elizabeth Hatten and Randy; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Warren and Joan Elizabeth Parker Larson; brothers, Barry Wayne Larson and Bret Larson.
