Service for Virgie Lewis, 103, of Cleburne will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Granbury Street Church of Christ. Mr. Kevin Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Virgie Lewis passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Cleburne. She celebrated her 103rd birthday only eight days before her death. Virgie was born Feb. 26, 1913 in Georgetown to Dave and Tabitha Whitehurst McCoy. She married B.B. Lewis who preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of Granbury Street Church of Christ. In early years, she was a busy dress maker; later, kept her hands busy with embroidery and quilting. When not sewing, she studied her Bible. With only a 3rd grade education, she was a Bible scholar.
“Granny Lewis” covered her family and friends with love, blessings, and prayers.
Survivors include her daughter, Bobbie Wesson and husband Norman; sons, Roy Lewis and wife Annette and Dwain Lewis and wife Marcia; son-in-law, Jimmy D. Locker; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lewis; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, “Little” Joe Lewis, Leo Lewis, and Monroe Lewis; daughters, Neva Lou Lewis and Gene Lewis Locker; and eight brothers and sisters.
