Virgie Wood

Service for Virgie Ellen Whitehead Wood, 94, of Alvarado will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 11, 2012 in the Eastern Heights Church in Cleburne. Pastors Larry Whitehead and Farris Whitehead will officiate. Pallbearers will be David Bolden, Michael Whitehead, Michael Goforth, Daniel Whitehead, Jonathan Mitchell, Derek Thurlby and Stephen Whitehead. Burial will be in Cresson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wood passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 in Ft. Worth. She was born May 3, 1918 in Johnson County to William J and Alma Coble Bayless. She was married to Othe "Preacher" Whitehead for 38 years, until his death in 1978, then married T.A. Wood on June 30, 1979. They were married for 20 years before his death in 1998.

Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and member of Eastern Heights Church.

Survivors include her four daughters, Gloria Goforth and husband Don of Denton, Joyce Thurlby and husband Dale of North Pole, Alaska, Odena Mitchell and husband Cordell of Midland and Pat Bolden and husband David of Mexia; four sons, Billy Ray Whitehead and wife Jeanetta of Springtown, Larry Whitehead and wife June of Alvarado, Farris Whitehead and wife Susan and Gary Whitehead and wife Kathy, all of Cleburne; two sisters, Elaine Moore and husband Jesse of Duncanville and Mary Ann Litton and husband Lize of Yantis; two brothers, Billy Joe Bayless and wife Julia of Granbury and Willard Bayless of San Angelo; 28 grandchildren; 75 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, nine brothers and sisters and one great grandchild.
