A memorial service for Virginia Elder Goforth, of Bryan, formerly of Cleburne, will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Calvary Baptist Church of Grandview. The Reverend Charles E. Payne will officiate, assisted by Eddy Carrell.
Virginia Elder Goforth, 91, passed away in her sleep on April 9, 2016 in Bryan. She was born March 18, 1925 in Avery, Texas to William and Lula Boze Nevill.
Virginia started working for Tandy Leather in Houston in the late 1950’s, where she met and married Ken Elder, who was also employed there. They married in 1973 and moved to Cleburne in 1976, where they started Leather Art of Texas, a Tandy dealer as well. They later divorced, but she remained very close to her stepsons. Tim Elder always called her his angel sent from God. She was a member of the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce, the American Women’s Association, and the Red Hat Society. Virginia was a very independent, hardworking lady who loved Cleburne and had an infectious, unique laugh that everyone could recognize. She always had a big smile and loved being around her friends and family; enjoying gospel music and singing quartets. Virginia retired in 2000 and moved to Tomball, Texas with her husband, John G. Goforth. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her love and many acts of kindness toward her family and friends will never be forgotten.
Survivors include her daughter, Roxanne Rielly; her beloved stepsons, Ted Elder and wife Donna, Tim Elder, Wesley Elder, and Jerry Elder and wife Dianne, all whom loved her very much. Virginia is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Djuana Moran of Houston; grandchildren, Samantha, Chris, T.J., Chelse, Amber, Courtney, Moranda, Makenzie, and Alyssa; several great grandchildren; special nephew, Tim Storey; special niece, Kay Storey; and a host of other relatives and many friends who will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Goforth; son, Thomas Donald Moran; a daughter, Becky Damone; brother, Virgill Nevill; and a sister, Iva Dell Storey.
Special thanks go to Timothy Storey and wife Mary for the special care of Virginia on a daily basis in Bryan. Timothy loved his aunt Virginia and will miss her big smile she gave him every time he entered the room. Also a special thanks to Heath Storey for his help as needed.
