Service for Virginia Ruth Slaughter, 94, of Rio Vista and Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Cleburne. Reverend Katie Stellar will officiate. Burial will be at 3 P.M., Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in Highland Cemetery in Melissa, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Daniel Slaughter, John Slaughter, Matt Slaughter, Zac Jones, Asa Jones and Austin Slaughter.
Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Cleburne. She was born November 15, 1927, in Melissa, Texas to Luther Newton and Mary Ellen Berry Roberts. Virginia married Harold “Bud” Wilson Slaughter on December 25, 1947, in Anna, Texas. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cleburne. Virginia worked as a Home Economics Teacher for Cleburne, Rio Vista, Blum and Venus ISD’s for numerous years. She then worked as a Real Estate Agent for several years before retiring. Virginia was a force of nature. Her devotion to her church was evident with her services as church organist., VBS Director, Lords Acre Ministry, Sunday School teacher and much more. Virginia was talented in cooking, sewing, toll painting and countless other creative outlets. She never was idle, always working on one project or another. She was famous for her canned pickles and countless other dishes. She will be missed greatly.
Virginia is survived by her children and their spouses, Brent Slaughter and Deb, Bob Slaughter and Happy, Marianne Jones and Rick, Jan Peterson and Kirk; grandchildren, Joy and Jimmy, Ginny and Geoff, Daniel, John, Jessica, Kristen and Landon, Matthew and Ashley, Kandice and Nate, Zac, Sara, Asa and Ruth, Austin and Chelsea, and Anna; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Cooke and husband, Jim, Marjorie Whitaker, and Rose Mary Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded by her parents, husband, and grandson, Barry.
